Let the clouds roll in

well i'm back, trying to keep this site updated as often as possible, it seems i have a little down time at work today so i thought, why not. here we go.

spiritualized - ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space
arguably one of the greatest tracks that Jason Pierce (aka Spaceman) has ever recorded. the multi layered vocals are simply amazing, listen and see how many voices you can hear definitely recommended to listen to on headphones. apparently the first copies of the album have a slightly different version with a refrain from the Elvis classic "Can't Help Falling In Love". Unfortunately the Presley estate didn't approve of the song (would love to know why not???) so an alternate version was issued. if anybody wants the "Elvis Mix" send me a note and i'll post it here.

sparklehorse - the hatchet song
hooray for all those sparklehorse fans out there, here's a treat for you. 'the hatchet song' is from the 'Chords I've Known' ep, it's one of those tracks that i can always listen to, especially for the line "stabbed me in the back ya know she threw a hatchet, buried in my chest when i turned to catch it". if you do some searching online you might be able to find the new album that Sparklehorse, Dangermouse and David Lynch did entitled "Dark Night of the Soul" apparently EMI yanked it and now has no release date at all. don't ask me how i got ahold of my copy, that's a secret!

low and the dirty three - lordy

'lordy save my soul' is right. what great TWANG on this track. sounds like they might be using an old 'resonator' guitar. this track features Low and Australia's The Dirty Three. this is from a sorta rare release called "In the Fishtank". i highly recommend this release as it shows a slightly differnet side to Low than my many have probably heard. as for the Dirty Three, well maybe we'll get to them next time.

alright, well the boss is nagging so i better get back to work, see you next time.

Ya know i've been thinking...

Lately i've really been listening to alot of female artists, so todays lil' post will feature 3 lovely ladies.

Beach House - Gila

If you don't know Beach House I highly recommend buying, borrowing or stealing both of their albums Devotion and their self titled. They have a very hypnotic sound with a drum machine that produces a wonderful pulse for many tracks, subtle guitar and keys build up the layers. Sadly like many great acts they decided to call it a day, nothing to say on what the members are up to now. Anybody that has any information feel free to pass it on.

Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions - Charlotte

Hope's voice has always tugged on my heart strings for years now, this is one of the standouts on her first solo album Bavarian Fruit Bread. You can hear a slight nod to Fleetwood Mac on this one. NEWS ALERT: I hear through the grapevine that she has a new album out in the fall and also there's talk of another Mazzy Star album and even a tour. I guess good things do come to those who wait. and wait. and wait some more.

Sharon Van Etten - Consolation Prize

Ohh my if you have never heard Sharon Von Etten you are in for a fabulous treat. Remaining steeped in traditional folk muisc, she has the type of voice that sends shivers down your spine and makes your your belly feel warm. I can't say enough about this track, it's just her voice and a guitar, what more do you really need.

Well there you have it, three tunes from me. Take care.

we all gotta start somewhere

hello, and welcome to 'You Can Make Me Feel Bad' my blog about me and all the emotional issues i have being an audio junky. well, more like a place for me to post about the music that i'm listening to.

well enough about me, let's get to it.

arthur russell - 'you can make me feel bad'

what an amazing song. absolutely haunting sound. this is one of those rare songs that you can link directly to the "sound" of My Bloody Valentine. it has that wonderfully nauseated feeling to it. so many bands have tried to find that sound, who knew it only takes a cello and a few guitar pedals.

angel corpus christi - femme fatale

i'm always a sucker for a clever cover and this one is very clever. warm and spaced out, the use of the accordian is perfect. an absolute must for any and all velvet underground fans. you can't help but sing along to this instrumental.

the bill wells trio - singleton

a really gentle piano based track that is perfect for staring out the window watching the clouds roll by. sometimes that's all that is needed from music. thanks for the break.

well, that's enough for today. hope you enjoy the songs.

me.
